Final Day in Vienna

As always happens this time of the workshop, we were startled that a week had passed and we only had one day left with all of our friends.  This morning our group split up with some going to a local market while the rest of us returned to the cathedral and shopping area for some last minute photos.

Being a little overcast and rainy, the streets were not as full as they were yesterday.  Along the way, we stopped and talked to uniformed military officers showing off their tanks, helicopters and military vehicles.  Being quite friendly, they happily posed for photos for us.

We decided to take the lift to the shorter tower in Stephansdom Cathedral to see what view we might have over the city and church.  The taller tower, one of the tallest church towers in Europe, is accessible only by stairs, 343 of them to be exact, which we decided to bypass due to the overcast skies (and frankly, I'm just a little lazy).  The roof tiles are very interesting on the church and there was a great view over the city.  It gave us a reference point for the amusement park location since the Ferris Wheel was visible in the distance.

Julius Meinl offers gourmet food and a small cafe in the heart of The Graben and seemed liked a perfect place to buy a few gifts to take home since we had done very little (read that as none) shopping up until this point.  Christmas delights abounded including one of the largest selections of advent calendars I've ever seen.  We opted for smaller selections before heading back to our hotel and pizza before our final critique session.

We gathered late afternoon for final words from our leaders and of course the final slideshow of our work from the week.  This time we had an extra show as a prank on Ira.  We had signs that we had been photographing all week with people and places as a joke on him.  Both shows were fantastic.

Bittersweet, our final dinner served as a place to promise future outings and correspondence.   This group has been so fantastic to work and play with, everyone mixing together in a cohesive class.  The locations were memorable and the new skills we've learned will serve us well on future ventures.
