Wondering Around Prague

Tonight we would join all of our fellow photographers for a welcome dinner, but we still had today free to explore.  There's a pretty well known picture which shows 4 bridges on the Vltava River and we set out to find it.

On top of a hill, not too far from our hotel and across the river, stands a giant metronome (currently not working) in a lovely hilltop park.  This affords a wonderful vantage point overlooking the city and most importantly the four bridges.  Even though the overcast skies made for a little less spectacular photo, we had found our first photo stop of the day.

Next,  we wondered back to the Old Square to take a look from the top of the tower during daylight.  Along the way, we sampled a Czech street food, Trdelnik,  which is made by wrapping pastry around a big metal tube that is then roasted over fire.  It's finished by rolling it in various coatings such as sugar.  They also are big into their spit roasted meats, especially pork.

The perspective from the tower during the day was completely different from the night.  Down below us we could see the throngs of people gathered for the hourly chiming of the Astronomical clock.  We also have lovely views looking over the city.

Heading towards new town (and a very nice camera store) we wound our way down narrow streets line with touristy shops, restaurants and hotels.  We found one street that had given a nod to some fanciful sculptures, most notably people hanging onto umbrellas suspended over the streets.  Next we walked by the Frank Gehry designed Dancing House, affectionately known as Fred and Ginger.

We strolled down the river on our way back to our hotel.  We needed to get ready for our group dinner this evening.  Our group met in the hotel for an introduction to the workshop and our fellow participants.  We knew all but one person which made it very nice.  Our dinner was on a boat tied to a pier on the river.  The food was good and it afforded a different view of the river.  We have an early morning of shooting so we retired for a few hours of sleep.

Tomorrow: Charles Bridge at dawn
